Under the leadership of Mayor Phil Hardberger, San Antonio has purchased over one-hundred heavily-wooded acres for a new City park. Pending voter approval of a bond package on May 12, 2007, this "tree sanctuary" will ultimately comprise 311 acres.

Known to San Antonians as the Voelcker Farm, the 462-acre tract is home to many large heritage trees and thousands of smaller trees. Councilman Art Hall indicated he would like to see the land kept "as natural as possible" and without "a lot of football fields".

Aprroximately one-third of the farm is slated for development by KBHome. However, KB has promised to abide by the City's tree preservation ordinance in developing the land.
